Weekly Round Up: 02/04/08

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 02 May 2008

Much like our latest “Blog on Wednesday” feature with the blogs, I thought it would be appropriate to have a blog post on a Friday dedicated to rounding up all the latest news, reviews, preview or whatever that has graced either the website, or the world of Nintendo. So, sit back and enjoy the next several hundred words. I guess this would be the perfect time to discuss our forum and latest happenings on their. At present we have 96 members; 8,276 posts, and 434 different topics. The most popular topic on the forum has to be our Apollo Justice topic with just over 200 replies, and this is probably because of the amount of forum members who have played the game and have great things to say about the franchise. Those stats wouldn’t be possible without any of our forum members, and I would just like to point out a few that stand out in my mind; Jake, Ian, Myles, Triforce of Wisdom, Josh, Tux_Do, Assault Veteran Ownage, Carbon_Ice and Chuck_Norris are all great forum members, so I’d just like to say thanks to you guys! Other site content that went up sometime this week includes, my Mario Kart Wii review, my Draglade review and my WiiWare blog giving a rough explanation on what WiiWare is and what to expect from it. And as usual, we’ve -- hopefully -- kept you guys up to date with the latest news.

Blog On Wednesday - 30/04/08

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 30 Apr 2008

Blog On Wednesday is something I hoping to do every Wednesday and I’m hoping it’s something you guys will enjoy too. Basically, rather than writing a blog just about games and the industry, I thought I would dedicate my blogs on Wednesdays to talk about sometime completely unrelated to games, but something that’s on my mind or is happening with my life. This week, I’ll be talking about drama and confidence. Enjoy!

As a drama student, I believe I’m a rather confident person and I enjoy getting up on stage and performing in front of others; I don’t know why but I love to show off (not in an arrogant way, mind). I think I love doing it because it’s a great way to let yourself go and express ourselves in surreal ways and whatnot. I know that may sound awfully cheesy and stuff, but that is what it’s all about.

WiiWare?! Wah...!?

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 28 Apr 2008

From the response we had on our forums, it sounds to me like not too many people out there are quite in the know for what WiiWare is. Hopefully this blog will give you a slight insight to the wonders to come from this awesome sounding service.

Basically WiiWare will be your portal to downloadable content for the Wii. You download it all from the Wii Shop Channel -- which I’m hoping all of you will be familiar with seeing as it’s been online since the Wii launched back in 2006, with the Virtual Console -- except this time, it wont be just old, retro games you’ll be able to buy. You’ll soon be able to download brand new, built for the Wii ground up, titles that will utilize the Wii’s hardware. Not only will you be able to buy games, but you’ll be able to soon purchase channels (which thus far have been free, but soon you may have to purchase them).

So will you be getting ‘Fit?

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 25 Apr 2008

So, Nintendo’s latest Wii, “casual” phenomenon has hit Europe. Of course, that title is Wii Fit. Costing people the over-priced-compared-to-all-other countries £70, it seems to me like a costly expense to do some exercise which can be done for free. Of course you don’t get all the little mini-games and whatnot from real-life exercise, but I personally don’t see the appeal to standing on a little white board looking like a bit of a idiot in you’re living room.

The whole concept, although not really for me, is quite intriguing. Certainly unique, but the whole calibre of the game seems quite vast. The yoga and fitness activities certainly look entertaining, and according to various people who have played it, say that it does I fact keep you fit. The mini-games don’t look too exciting, but they show what Wii games have the potential using the new peripheral.

Where art thou Podcasts?

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 10 Apr 2008

I know we promised the podcasts would be more frequent since we kick started them back in February, but it seems that promise has been slightly damaged. It’s been more than 2 months since our last one for you guys, and I’m sure you’re all eager for a new one…

Anyway, the main problem we’re having getting you one is internet problems… my internet. My internet connection can be fine one minute and the next minute it will drop for a few seconds, before going live again. Although it may seem like a minor problem for podcast recording, when the internet drops, Skype then stops working meaning we no longer can talk. It’s very frustrating, but thankfully I’ve now fixed it.

Mario Kart - Snaking Good or bad?

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 05 Apr 2008

Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to play Mario Kart today, but fortunately for you guys, I decided to write a blog post on Mario Kart and the sudden change in power sliding.

As some of yo may or may not know, Nintendo have removed “snaking” from Mario Kart Wii. Now, I know a lot of you class that as cheating - as it gave an “unfair” advantage to the player since they were getting speed boosts on a straight part of the course - but I personally thought it was more of a skill rather than some sort of cheat.

April Fools Day "FTL"

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 31 Mar 2008

Who invented this mess of a day? Ok, it’s a day when people pull pranks on one another, but where do people draw the line? For a publicist it’s going to be a tough day - especially for the gaming community! Every year, bad rumours or bad jokes appear on the internet causing unnecessary headaches for us since we have to try and keep track of what’s the truth, and what’s not.

Most things are normally dismissed straight away as they’re too eccentric to believe. We’ve already had a few “funny” April fools jokes, and that’s before April has even begun. The worst one thus far has got to have been the Freeloader one, and following that is Wario’s Woods for Wii Ware; all fake, but they were believable.

Happy Easter, guys!

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 20 Mar 2008

Easter is coming. That means a 4 day long weekend. So what do you guys plan to do? Hopefully it’ll involve you playing some Wii Sports with the family to burn off all that chocolate you’ve eaten over the festive celebration.

As for me, I’ll be playing a bit of ‘Brawl with anyone I can over the weekend. But I wont stop there. Hopefully I can muster in some ‘alone time’ with Zack and Wiki, Metroid Prime 3 and maybe even finish Battalion Wars 2. Chances are I wont even get around to doing any of that, but I’ll try.

'Brawl's Within Spitting Distance Now!

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 17 Mar 2008

It has been a long time coming, but I finally have a copy of Super Smash Brothers Brawl in front of me. The box art is great, the instruction manual is what I’d expect (big, bright and colourful) and the disc is a generic disk. Everything about what I’ve seen so far is great… if only I could actually play the damn thing.

Yep, that’s right, I have the American version of ‘Brawl (I’m a U.K resident), but sadly no Freeloader as of yet. The box is just staring at me screaming for me to play it. I just hope my console can run the game without any disk problems.

Pokemon Cards - Did you ever "Catch 'em all"?

Posted in Cal's Blog.

By Cal on the 16 Mar 2008

I recently cleaned out my room the other day and found a huge stack of Pokemon cards. They were from all sorts of sets including ones from the original all the way up to some of the more recent Pokemon. And with that, I though to myself, why did I buy them…

I never really understood the rules of the game until a few years ago (but now I’ve totally forgotten). They cost me around £3.50 for a pack of 12 ( £10 for a 52 card deck ) and I never knew how to play probably. Granted, though, they did look so damn cool… especially if you have a shiny.
